Tourism, Gaming, and Entertainment is a core industry in Nevada - a dominant employer, exporter, and anchor industry for other sectors. Nevada has a strong brand in this industry, offers highly competitive infrastructure and assets, and has strong human resources and innovation capacity.
Nevada's arts, cultural, and entertainment environment is rich and diverse. Nevada offers a variety of entertainment, from world-class hotels and casinos, shopping, golf, and restaurants, to the 18 ski resorts and boating at Lake Tahoe. There's the fishing, hiking and camping of Great Basin National Park, the rock climbing of Red Rock Canyon National Recreation Area and the snow-capped Ruby Mountains of Northeastern Nevada - all with more than 300 days of sunshine annually. Las Vegas, Reno and Tahoe host the big names in entertainment, as well as some of the well-known annual events such as Hot August Nights, the Balloon Races, the Best in the West Rib Cook-off, the Reno Air Races, etc., that are drawing thousands of visitors from all around the world.
Given its leadership, Nevada is the ideal platform for the study of hospitality. Through different educational programs, which include hotel administration; culinary arts and beverage management; service, lodging and resort management; recreation; professional golf management; meetings and events management; and sports and leisure services, the state is focusing on leveraging its intellectual capital to create higher-skill and higher-paying jobs and open up new opportunities for industry.
